Why Buy a Tablet PC
Tablet computers are quickly becoming one of the most popular mobile electronics items in the world. Consumers are drawn to them for their affordability, size, and portability. In the last few years, the tablet PCs have taken giant leaps forward in performance and capabilities, making them even more attractive. For some consumers, a tablet PC can replace the need to own a laptop or desktop computer. Tablets are being used for entertainment, business, education, planning and more.
The most popular tablets tend to use major operating system, namely Apple's iOS (on the iPad tablets), and Google's Android OS. The iPads tend to have more programs, or apps, available through the iTunes App Store. Many of these are the same apps that are available on Apple's other devices, such as the iPod Touch and the iPhone. There are far more Android tablets than there are Apple tablets, with a much wider range of specifications and prices. As with the iPads, the Android tablets can run several apps, similar to the ones that are available on the Android cell phones. Apple tablets generally start in the $500 price range and go up close to $1,000, while Android tablets are available for as little as $100 and go up to similar high end prices as the iPads. As one would expect, the lower end Android tablets have severely reduced functionality, with slower processors, smaller screens, shorter battery life, and less memory. High end Android tablets are very much on par with iPads, however.
Purchasing a tablet, particularly a higher end one, is a fairly large decision for most consumers, so it is important to decide what features and functions are important. If the tablet is going to be used to supplement a traditional computer by letting the user check their email and do some basic internet surfing on the go, a lower end model can suffice. Those looking for a unit that can replace a traditional computer, or at least provide much of the same functionality in a more mobile package, will look towards higher end units which are able to handle more advanced applications, possibly including gaming. Another major consideration is how you will connect the tablet to the internet. All tablets can use WiFi internet to connect, but some higher end models can also connect through cellular internet, in the same fashion as a smartphone. These tablets generally require a separate data package, again like a smartphone, from a cellular provider.
