Satellite Television
For over half a century, television has become a staple of nearly every home across the globe. Whether it is used to catch up on the news around the world or just simply a way for a family to catch up on their favorite shows, a television set is often one of the first objects a person will notice in a house. Unfortunately for those who reside in smaller towns or more rural areas, they may be able to receive only a small handful of channels, sometimes only three or four. Since everything can not be aired on a single channel, this presents a problem. Thankfully, there is a solution.
Satellite television is, as the name implies, television which is sent via satellite and picked up from an antenna, which is often referred to as a satellite dish. While the range of this form of television is much further, one will be unable to reap the benefits without a satellite dish. In order to receive this dish, the customer must first sign up with one of the satellite tv providers found in the area. In the United States there are two major satellite tv providers: DirecTV and Dish Network. Either one of the two can be found in nearly every area, allowing the already impressive range of satellite television to reach all areas of the country.
For those customers who prefer to use a computer over a television, there are options for computer towers as well. Some satellite tv providers can allow the customers to watch their favorite channels on their computers by either installing a card to pick up signals or even a chip placed into a USB stick for exterior use. In addition, due to the many branches of these satellite tv providers, the person can even move to another town or state and bring their chip along, with no wait time in re-obtaining the service. Rules may vary per company on this however, so it is always advised to ask your provider if this is allowed.
While satellite television has always come in two different forms in the past, both are slowly being replaced by satellite tv providers with a completely new form. This form, known as high-definition television, has a much higher resolution. This means that, while pictures will be more crisp and detailed, older television sets will be unable to render this new resolution correctly. For that reason, satellite tv providers are attempting to slowly phase this new form slowly, allowing their customers more time to either purchase a new set or obtain a converter box that will break down the signal into a form that the older television can work with.
