Choosing a Home Security System

A home security system is a very important tool that every person should have. It helps protect homes, families, and it even saves lives. There are lots of companies in different parts of the country that provide home security systems. Some of them are large companies, and some of them are relatively small mom and pap's operations. Choosing a home security company is extremely important. It's recommended to compare multiple companies and systems in order to make an informed and educated decision. Lots of people make a decision based on price. Others make their decisions based on system and service. It's is not recommended to jump on a particular company or system simply based on their price. Typically, companies that offer a below industry average price usually have systems that are not as helpful as others.

The most popular home security companies in the United States are Brinks, ADT and Protect America. Those companies provide different types of home security systems. There are magnetic, electric circuit and motion detecting systems, infrared systems and wireless security systems. Some systems are linked to security cameras and electric fences. And there are systems that communicate via household electric wires and are operated remotely via the Internet. Some systems are monitored, while some aren't. They have their advantages and their disadvantages. Monitored system alerts a central call center if an alarm has been triggered. They typically wait 30 to 45 seconds before calling the homeowner to ask if everything is ok. That 30 to 45 second window is a disadvantage because if gives a burglar time to quickly break in and grab something and run if the homeowner isn't home. Another disadvantage is that monitored systems are usually linked to the phone line of that homeowner. Smart burglars can locate that phone box outside of the home and that would result in the monitoring station not being alerted of the alarm. The other type of home alarm system is an unmonitored system. Those typically make a siren or a loud noise if they are triggered. That usually serves as a way to alert any neighboring homes that something is happening. Now it's up to neighbors to contact local authorities to get help.

Another form of alarm system that has been gaining a lot of popularity is a wireless system. Typically those are used by both individuals and business owners. They can monitor via a camera system which they have access to remotely. Business owners now are putting those in their businesses so that they can monitor activity of their employees even if the owner is not present. That really helps businesses with multiple locations. So it not only becomes a tool for security, but it serves as a way to simply look at the activity level at a business. Residential customers also use those so that they can have access to the camera and monitor their homes even while they are away.

In conclusion, individuals should thoroughly research the home security subject in order to have a clear understanding of how they operate. That would significantly contribute to making an informed and educated decision.
