Many adults don't realize that fevers can lead to some severe complications that you can't really get in your youth. If you are an adult and your fever ever goes above 102 degrees for more than half a day, you should seek immediate medical attention. If however your fever stays under 102 degrees, but persists for at least 2 days, you should also seek medical attention. If you have a lower grade fever, around 99 degrees, it isn't as severe and you can take some medications that can lower your temperature and relieve some of the symptoms a fever will cause.

Getting a fever was a part of any childhood. It meant you got to stay home and be lazy for a couple of days. But as an adult, fevers can actually cause some severe complications and must be taken seriously. Fevers in adults can also be much more debilitating than similar fevers in children. As an adult, if you have a high fever, above 102, for more than half a day, you should seek medical attention. For children, you only need to be worried if the fever goes above 103. Fevers like these are rare and require immediate action from a medical professional.
