Hybrid cars are powered through the battery when possible and only use gasoline when absolutely necessary, like at high speeds or when accelerating. Otherwise the battery is used for all power. Hybrids will only save drivers more money as gas prices continue to rise. Hybrids still cost more money up front, but the prices of these vehicles are also coming down, which is a welcome sight for drivers.

Hybrid cars do usually cost more than the traditional gasoline only cars, but the fuel savings must also be taken into consideration. If you run out of gasoline, can the battery alone power a hybrid car? No, a hybrid car must have gasoline to run and is not made to be driven without gasoline. Hybrids cost more to buy off the lot, and you also have to think about buying a new battery for your hybrid later on down the road.
